This nature based learning project is a new outdoor learning landscape designed around existing buildings. On-site challenges have been utilized into the design to create play features. Modeled around the Reggio-Emelia approach to education, nature-based play elements are integrated to engage children in learning and play. This creative approach includes a dry creek which also doubles as stormwater infiltration in the form of a dry creek, with accents such as bronze animals and bridges. Other design elements include two age appropriate water features, a miniature amphitheater, an art atelier, a sand pit with fossil dig, and two shade sail systems. These site amenities support nature-based play programming and integrate with interior classroom spaces.
