Friendship Park Environs
Imperial Beach, CA
Studio West has long been an advocate to protect this important space that lies at the crossroads of our prehistory, recent history and modern efforts to secure the U.S. Mexico border. Today this significant park is threatened with border security construction that compromises access to the original 1851 monument #1/258, recognized as the point of origin of our country on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, proposed development compromises Pat Nixon’s park dedication area and regular bi-national interaction between friends and family utilizing the park for visits. Our efforts have included development of a park timeline, a historic land use study for the Border Field State Park, replanting the bi-national native plant garden, development of a conceptual landscape plan, and leading public park tours in the U.S. and Mexico to support the park preservation efforts by the Friends of Friendship Park and The Cultural Landscape Foundation.
