Ramona, CA
The site design of this 50 acre fly-in community and airport expansion project addressed a number of aquifer protection, stormwater, habitat, pilot safety, and community concerns. This expansion project was one of the first projects to be required to meet the County of San Diego’s mandatory Low Impact Development (LID) standards, and did so by creating a landscape that was reflective of the rich ecological and architectural history of the Ramona area. The project used an innovative stormwater management system to protect an existing seasonal wetland supply and recharge the three aquifers located on the property while minimizing wildlife hazards to pilots. In addition, this project included the park-like amenities of covered shade structures, barbecues, seating, and a perimeter walking path.
